July Loves

Hello loves,

I have been trying to decide what exactly I want to do with the loves section of my blog. When I was first creating it, I picked loves because of the alliteration it makes with my other categories – lifestyle and looks, but it wasn’t until now that it had a real purpose other than holding a place for some miscellaneous posts. I have come up with the idea to post continuously every single month with items I have either purchased or rediscovered that I was in LOVE with that particular month. I will be featuring approximately 5 items each month and I will give a review on why I chose these items.

I am excited to share with you, my very first Monthly Love post consisting of some summer essentials that I have been obsessing over lately.

First up, my favourite new lip product – Stila Color Balm Lipstick, if you read my blog consistently and follow me on social media you know that I love Stila lip products. For the first time this month I tried out a different one. It is a lipstick but it has the consistency of a balm and is so moisturizing. It makes your lips look so luscious. It also has a minty scent with is so refreshing this time of year. I find that in the summer months my lips become so dry from being exposed to the sun without protection. I love to wear lipstick daily but it is hard to apply it onto dry lips. This lip balm is perfect because you get a strong colour and the moisture that quenches your lips thirst. I chose the colour Sadie, it is a beautiful coral colour. I love brighter lips for the summer because it makes me look more tanned than I really am.

Another makeup product that I have loved lately is Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara. I know that this mascara can be very expensive especially since you have to replace your mascara every 3 months for health reasons but I believe it is worth the splurge in the summer months. Normally, I tend to wear very little makeup in the summer because I am tanned and my skin looks 100X better but even when I look tanned, I still need the bare minimum of mascara so I don’t look like a zombie.

I love the smell of coconut, it makes me feel like I am on vacation on a beach somewhere, even though I am still at work in Calgary. This Lush Salted Coconut Hand Scrub is perfect for getting your hands silky smooth and smelling like the Bahamas. Calgary is such a dry city and it is easy to forget to do scrubs and moisturize in the summer because dry skin isn’t as noticeable as it is in the winter but I honestly love doing this scrub a couple times a month just because.

I am totally into the cat eye sunglass trend and I recently found these super cute Cat Eye Sunglasses from Nordstrom for less than $20 which is amazing because they look so nice.  Some trendy sunnies are a definite necessity for summer. It is nice to have a variety of sunglasses for different outfits and styles. I normally have at least 5 pairs to choose from so I don’t get bored of the same ones. I am lucky I don’t need a prescription pair because I can wear $15 sunnies every day without complaining, my sister, on the other hand, is not so fortunate.

Another summer necessity is some light reading. I am not super interested in reading, especially fiction. I do really enjoy reading books about fashion and such though. I picked up the book, The Way She Wears It written by Dallas Shaw, a couple weeks ago and I couldn’t put it down. It helps you find your personal style and express it in everything you wear. I love the layout and the illustrations of the book and I think it is a perfect read for those of you who are also interested in dressing your best!

I hope you enjoyed my very first Monthly Loves post and please let me know in the comments or on Instagram if you have any suggestions on what you would like to see on the blog next!
